NEX Architecture beat out some serious competition to win an international competition to design the Cadogan Cafe in Chelsea. To be located near the Saatchi Gallery in the Duke of York Square, the 300 square meter eatery will have a coiled form, rooftop terrace and cutouts that provide sheltered external seating. It will also boast a retractable glass wall that will respond to the fickle English weather.

The retractable glazed wall will not only ensure that people can come and go freely, but it will promote natural ventilation as well. And it responds to the changing weather conditions, making the cafe a dynamic, flexible place that is bound to attract a lot of visitors. Finally, the rooftop terrace is expected to permit excellent views of the city, while the swirling form pays deep respect to the local architectural heritage.
